Impact of Performance‐Based Financing on effective coverage for curative child health services in Burkina Faso: Evidence from a quasi‐experimental design

Objective To evaluate the impact of Performance-Based Financing (PBF) on effective coverage child curative health services in primary healthcare facilities Burkina Faso. Methods An evaluation a PBF pilot programme, using an experiment nested within quasi-experimental design, was carried out 12 intervention and comparison districts six regions Across 24 districts, (537 both at baseline endline) households (baseline = 7978 endline 7898) were surveyed. Within these households, 350 15 021 under-five-year-olds caretakers interviewed respectively. Linking service quality to utilisation, we used difference-in-differences estimate services. Results Our study failed detect any effect coverage. Looking specifically into care indicators, detected positive structural elements related general readiness, but not overall facility score, capturing readiness content childcare. Conclusion The current makes unique contribution literature, as this is first assessing for low-income settings. absence significant effects suggests that programmes require stronger design focus especially when implemented context free policy.
